About The Manual
LDWA’s guide to outdoor exploration
Welcome to the manual, a blog for long distance walking, by the Long Distance Walkers Association. It’s a work in progress, designed to complement Strider—our longstanding magazine for LDWA members. This extension serves as a digital learning centre and celebration of everything long-distance walking.
We’ve got you covered with news, reviews, how-tos and interviews. We celebrate successes and highlight events within the LDWA sphere and beyond. But, more importantly, we share our platform to elevate the voices of others—with narratives often overlooked, unknown or untold.
It’s for everyone—walkers, runners, members, non-members, past, future, new, old and everything in between. Our aim is to showcase our collective wisdom, knowledge and expertise with the wider world through open dialogues and diverse content formats, including print, digital, audio and video.
Our Mission
Our goal for the manual was clear—to craft the ultimate digital compendium for ramblers looking for a little more ‘time on feet’.
Ambitious? Yes, but ambition is written into the LDWA’s DNA.
Editorial Integrity and Inclusivity
Our editorial standards are a compass guiding us towards integrity, inclusivity, environmental responsibility and well-being. We pledge to share reliable information and transparently correct our mistakes. Advertising is permitted but clearly distinguished from independent content creation. Dedicated volunteers, LDWA members and freelance contributors help craft our editorial content.
Inclusivity and representation are at the heart of our mission. We’re devoted to broadening our coverage to actively include voices of all ages, genders, ethnicities, LGBTQ+ individuals and those with diverse abilities.
Inspiring Outdoor Adventures
Our stories delve into the ideas, challenges and experiences that connect us with the great outdoors. Whether it’s promoting inclusivity in nature, discussing the climate nexus, exploring the health and wellness connection, sharing gear innovations, or offering practical advice for outdoor activities, we aim to resonate, inspire, educate and empower a diverse audience across the UK and beyond.
